Donate a Kuranda Dog Bed

Watauga Humane Society uses Patented Kuranda Dog Beds in our kennels because they are durable, chew proof and easy to clean.

Donate a Kuranda dog bed to Watauga Humane Society.

Poly Resin Bed with Commercial Duty 40 oz Fabric
This bed utilizes the "chew proof" frame design of Kuranda's poly resin beds with 40 oz solid vinyl fabric to make the most durable bed Kuranda manufactures.

The heavy duty vinyl has shown to hold up better than any fabric Kuranda has tested in animal shelters, boarding kennels and in training facilities. 40 oz vinyl is a smooth, non-porous, easy to clean material similar to what is used on truck tarps and gym mats.

Please, donate a Kuranda dog bed to Watauga Humane Society.

Pet Food Drive
Please help animals and families who are struggling to keep their animals and need assistance with pet food

THE ONLY GROWL COMING FROM A PET SHOULD BE A PLAYFUL ONE! NEVER ONE FROM HIS/HER HUNGRY TUMMY!
HELP END HUNGRY PET TUMMIES IN WATAUGA COUNTY!

The Pet Food Pantry operated by the Watauga Humane Society is designed specifically to provide temporary assistance to our Watauga County families that are being forced to make very difficult choices during these continued rough economic times.

The Pet Food Pantry is located at the Watauga Humane Society, 312 Paws Way. The hours of operation are the same as the operating hours of the shelter and the number is 828-264-7865.

These programs rely solely on donations from the public. You may drop your donations off at Joe’s Italian Kitchen, The Watauga County Public Library, The Pet Place (Shops at Shadowline) and the Watauga Humane Society.  We accept monetary donations as well as ALL kinds of pet food (in unopened, original packaging), and everything goes right out into our community to help keep families and their pets together.

These programs, in addition to having your pets spayed or neutered, cut down on the abandoned and surrendered pets in our community.

***A special thank you to The Pet Place and the local Food Lions for their donations!

Mychal's Fund

"Mychal's Fund" is a medical fund for injured animals. The fund is named after Mychal, the cat who was deliberately burned during the holiday season of 2001 by a man angry at Mychal's owner. Mychal's owner could not afford treatment so she turned him in to Watauga Humane Society.

Mychal endured serious burns on the back half of his body that required surgery and debridement. Mychal was anesthetized 17 times during the course of his treatment. He lost two-thirds of his tail and the fronts of his back toes. Mychal was badly burned over a large part of his back right flank and another place on his stomach.

Where his hair follicles were destroyed, he has no hair, only scar tissue. Where his hair follicles were damaged, his hair grew back white. This left an unusual design on this solid black cat.

The Watauga Humane Society paid Mychal's veterinary care expenses, had him neutered, and found him a new home. It took Mychal a very long time to trust humans again, but now he comes up to his new owner for attention, and will lie next to and even on top of his owner, but he still doesn't like to be picked up or held. After everything he went through, it is remarkable that he wants anything to do with people!

Mychal was featured as the cover cat for the Watauga Humane Society 2004 calendar.

If you would like to help animals like Mychal who need emergency medical care, please donate to Mychal's Fund! You can either mail a donation, or donate online right now, with PayPal! Please let us know if you require a receipt and we will mail one to you.

Sponsorship

You may have noticed on our adoptable pet listings that some of the animals have a sponsorship message. Sponsorships help pay for food, vaccines, medication, care, spay/neuter surgery, and medical expenses.

We have two levels of sponsorship: Full Sponsorships for $45, and Assistive Sponsorships for $25. Sponsorship payments can be made in person at the shelter, through the mail (Watauga Humane Society, P.O. Box 1835, Boone, NC 28607), or online via PayPal. See instructions below for mail-in sponsorships and PayPal sponsorships.

To sponsor an animal, please go to the specific animal on either the Dogs, Cats, Puppies, Kittens or Other Animals page and click "Sponsor This Animal" (located beside the description of the animal). This link will take you directly to a Sponsorship form below a photo of that animal with an electronic form to fill out. If you decide on another animal, you can choose another animal from the same form.
