WHS Annual Meeting
The Annual Meeting of the Watauga Humane Society will occur on Wednesday, October 25 at 5:30 at the Adoption Center. The board will provide an update on the state of the Humane Society. Elections will be held for board members. To be able to vote you must be a member in good standing.
If you are interested in being a board member you must meet the following criteria (WHS bylaws)
Section 3. Eligibility to Stand for Election to the Board of Directors. A person must be at least 21 years of age and be a member in good standing. It is recommended that nominees have served on at least one committee, fund raising event, service task force or have been a volunteer for, or supporter of the Society within the preceding year in order to stand for election.
No paid employee of the Society may stand for election. Persons standing for election shall not possess any conflict of interest relating to financial or economic interest, which include any matter in any economic gain, directly or indirectly, as a result of action by the Society.
Section 4. Nominations to serve on the Board of Directors.
(a) Nominations are presented by the Nominating Committee only, with no nominations allowed from the floor. A minimum of four (4) weeks prior to the Annual Meeting, the Nominating Committee shall nominate candidates for membership on the Board of Directors. Two (2) weeks prior to the Annual Meeting, the Secretary shall have the nominees’ names posted to the Society website.
(b) Nominations by Society members at large may be made by any member in good standing. They must present a nomination to the Nominating Committee no later than (four (4) weeks) prior to the Annual Meeting via phone, email, or in writing.
(c) Board applications must be received by the nominating committee chair no later than four (4) weeks prior to the annual meeting.
Section 5. Voting. Voting at the Annual Meeting shall be by secret ballot with no proxy votes allowed.
Directors shall be elected by a plurality-at-large voting system with checkbox ballots.
If fewer nominees exist than there are seats available, the remaining seats on the Board of Directors shall be declared vacant and will be filled as in Article VIII Section 5.

Please include information about yourself, why you are interested in serving on the board and what ways you have volunteered your time to WHS.
Please note that board members are required to chair a committee (or equivalent) and contribute financially to WHS.
Click & Treat Club
Click & Treat Club is for any volunteer that wants to learn how to work with and train the shelter dogs to help increase their chance of adoption, as well as make their lives happier during their stay with us at WHS. If you are not a volunteer and would like to be please complete an application HERE.
Required Classes for participation in Click & Treat Club
Dog Care - Tuesday - Sunday from 8-10am
Dog Enrichment/Socialization- Tuesday-Sunday from 12:30-3:30pm
If you are interested in being a part of the Click and Treat Club, be sure to attend the 2 classes prior to Sept. 24th.
Note: After three months of active participation in C & T club, volunteers may be eligible to be invited to participate in the Diamond Dog program.
