Zoey's Happily Ever After!

Zoey's Way Home!

Zoey just couldn’t catch a break. She spent her whole life being a good girl. She mastered the art of house manners, love on demand, floor clean-up duty, the works. She took her job seriously, and she did it well. After all, being someone’s most adored companion is a very coveted responsibility.

And then, out of nowhere, her person passed away. He left one day and never returned, and we aren’t quite sure she ever understood that he didn’t abandon her, that she was loved and adored.

She came to us, and as we expected, she was scooped up just a month later, only to return when life changed and her adopters were no longer able to keep her. They confirmed what we already knew: she was truly the perfect dog.

Her second stay with us was not as brief. She coped. She was a staff favorite, got tons of extra treats, walks, and lovings, but something was missing.

79 days later, a lovely lady walked through our doors looking like she had a plan. She had adopted from us before and came to get her boy a friend. She met Zoey, and the love was instant, on both sides. It didn’t take long for her to sign on the dotted line and trot right out our doors.

At home, we expected a transition period between the dogs, a few whoopsies, but nothing. From the very first day, it was the kind of bond a pet parent only hopes for their pups to have. They are inseparable, have the same energy level, and feed off each other perfectly. They clean each other’s ears at night, cuddle like it’s the last nap they’ll take together, and cherish every moment.

Zoey is also very attached to her new human. She follows her from room to room, not letting her out of her sight. Although it is endearing and a show of love that resonates, we can’t help but wonder if she just wants to make sure her person comes back. We know her heart is healed, but the grief she felt will always leave a lingering effect.

To be loved by a dog like Zoey is to be trusted in a way that isn’t given lightly.
