WHS: Hiring for an Executive Director!

WATAUGA HUMANE SOCIETY EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR  

Full Time Position 

We are looking for a leader with strategic, creative, and financial acumen, as well as strong business intellect. 

For more than 50-years Watauga Humane Society (WHS) has promoted animal welfare in the High Country. The Executive Director will be responsible for managing all aspects of the Humane Society. 

WHS is a no-kill, private, non-profit organization that serves about 1600 animals per year, has an operating budget of around $900,000,  along with 15 staff members and 200 volunteers. The adoption center is an 18,000 sq. ft. facility opened in 2011 that can house about 270 animals at a time. 

WHS improves the lives of companion animals by rehoming abused, abandoned, and neglected pets while fighting for their well-being through vigorous fundraising, outreach activities, community education and support of low cost spay/neuter surgeries.   

A positive attitude and ability to adapt are essential. If you are an experienced leader who enjoys working in a collaborative environment and are passionate about animal welfare, the Watauga Humane Society is the place for you. 

Must Have: 

A bachelor’s degree or higher. 

3- 5 years experience as a senior administrator in a non-profit organization. 

Experience managing a large budget and all aspects of the organization. 

Demonstrated success in fundraising, grant seeking, and donor relations. 

Critical thinking skills and the ability to establish and monitor strategic plans that support the Watauga Humane Society’s long- term vision. 

A positive “coach mentality” and commitment to helping staff grow and thrive. 

Outstanding ability to cultivate business and community partnerships. 

Enthusiasm for the WHS mission and passion for promoting it in our community and beyond.
