This year’s annual membership meeting was held on Wednesday, September 23, virtually, via Zoom. The WHS Board of Directors presented reports of Shelter activities for the last year and what’s expected going forward.
The 2020-2021 slate of Board of Directors was presented and approved from previously distributed ballots.
The slate included new members, Kristan Cockerill, Alice Gryder and Cathy Johnson as well as returning board members, Jill Privott and Paula Katers. The following evening, September 24, the Board of Directors held its first meeting with the new board and elected this year’s officers.
They are as follows.
President, Monique Eckerd
Vice-President, Paula Katers
Secretary, Patty Dale
Treasurer, Joyce Ogburn
While we are excited to welcome these members to their new positions, we also say goodbye to a long-time dedicated supporter. The staff, volunteers and board of directors of WHS would like to extend a sincere thank you to outgoing president, Dr. Charles Duke.
Charlie joined the Watauga Humane Society Board of Directors in 2014 after spending 51 years in education. Charlie has served two terms as President and stepped back into the leadership position in March 2020 as acting President.
Charlie’s calm, measured approach to all the challenges associated with leading a non-profit organization in these unprecedented times has been a source of inspiration to all who served with him. His generosity of time and spirit has been a tremendous benefit to the Board of Directors and the staff of Watauga Humane Society.
We wish him all the best in his future endeavors and hope to see him regularly at the Adoption Center.
Thank you to all of these wonderful volunteers for stepping up and helping to continue the life saving work of Watauga Humane Society.
